A journey in the land of monasteries with lot of “back in time” moments. Moldova and Bucovina are the most religious regions in Romania, and their treasures are their painted monasteries included in the UNESCO World Heritage. Our aims is to lead you along this route for offering you more than this: breathtaking landscapes, traditional crafts lost in time and local culinary delights. Bucovina and Moldova routes are suitable for average distances with lot of stops for visits.

DETAILED ITINERARY:
DAY 1: Meeting in Agapia
Our first day is the “get together” day.
The little village of Agapia is hiding one of the most important monasteries in Romania. It is the largest nuns’ monastery and the church was painted by the national painter of Romania, Nicolae Grigorescu. Here we will have our meeting and preparation for the tour. We have time for visiting, check our bikes, discuss the next days and know each other during the welcome dinner. Is also a good opportunity for meeting the culture and the history of this remote part of the country.
Overnight in Agapia.
Meals: welcome dinner prepared by our hosts.
DAY 2: Cycling around Agapia (75 km ride)
After breakfast we are leaving our guesthouse by bike and following one of the most religious routes in Romania – the route of hidden monasteries. We will visit Agapia, Sihla, Sihastrie and Vanatori Monasteries. But this is not all. A buffalo reserve near Vanatori Monastery, a family museum of carved wood and folkloric objects and an ancient military fortress – are other sites to be visited on the way, before returning back to Agapia.
Part of the route is not paved and we will have a 500m altitude climb in the first part of the trip. Picnic lunch on the way
Back to our guesthouse, we will have another dinner prepared by our hosts.

Total bike distance: ~75 km on asphalt and gravel road. Rolling hills.
Day 3: Agapia to Voronet (90 KM bike ride)
Today we will travel to another religious area – the painted monasteries included in UNESCO World Heritage. After 80 km ride on rolling hills, crossing poor villages lost in time, we will arrive in Voronet for admiring one of the most beautiful painted monasteries, with a specific blue color.
Then we will ride to our final destination – Humor, for accommodating near another UNESCO monastery. Not as famous as the others, Humor is smaller and with a specific architecture.
Overnight in Humor, in a 4* guesthouse.
Meals: breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner.
Total bike distance: 90 km on asphalted road. Rolling hills.
DAY 4: Humor to Sucevita and back
In the first part of the day we will have a constant 500m vertical climb through the woods, then a long descent to Sucevita for visiting the largest and most recent UNESCO monastery. Then we will reach the village of Marginea, visit an ancient ceramic workshop, where artisans are building black ceramic specific for this area. It is a good time for having lunch. On our way back to Humor we will have another stop for visiting an old salt mine in Cacica.
In the afternoon we will arrive back to Humor for a good traditional dinner and a glass of good wine.

Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Total ride: 85 km on asphalt, gravel and not paved routes.
DAY 5: Humor to Moldovita, then to Pojorata (75 km ride)
Today we will visit another ancient tradition of the area – egg painting. We will visit one of the most appreciated artisans and watch her techniques of painting various type of eggs. On the way we will stop in another painted monastery in Moldovita.
In the afternoon we will arrive to our destination – Pojorata, after 70 km on asphalt, but rolling hills.
Overnight in Pojorata.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Total ride: 75 km on asphalt, rolling hills and a 500m vertical climb in the second part of the day.
DAY 6: Transrarau route (45 km ride)
In our last day we will have a special ride nearby Campulung city. Also known as “Transrarau Route”, the road we will ride is climbing 1,000m to the top of the local mountain – Rarau. On top we will visit a natural monument and we will have lunch.
On the way back we will have a short stop in Campulung for visiting this important city for the region.
Back to our guesthouse for farewell dinner.
Overnight in Pojorata. Farewell dinner.

DAY 7: DEPARTURE DAY
After breakfast it is time to say goodbye.
